August 2010

KHOMBWE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Khombwe Primary School is in Lizulu Zone, up in the hills with only a dirt track road for access. There are currently three classes (Standard 1,2 and 3) but the schools is set to expand to four classes by mid 2010. The School has a wonderful Headteacher, Mr Liwonde, and two other trained teachers. However...

Khombwe Primary School has no School building! One class is taught under a tree, another under a thatched make-shift shelter, with the final class taught in the village church.

This leaves the teachers with nowhere to store their little resources and only the church to teach all 3 classes in when the rains come.

So desperate is the community for a school building that they had already started to mould bricks when Michelle went to visit the School, in the hope that Inspire Malawi would see their desire and support for any developments.

Khombwe Primary School desperately needs four classrooms, toilets and both teaching and learning resources.
