Building Better

Renovating and building new school blocks

We create bright, safe and inspiring learning environments that both teachers and children want to spend time in. Whether renovating existing facilities or building from the ground up, we work hand-in-hand with the communities we support to develop their schools. Thirteen so far, and counting!

Developing libraries

Many primary schools do not have access to a library, either on site or in their community. We build our first Library, 'Oscar’s Library’ in loving memory of Oscar Jefferies with support from the Fonthill Foundation. We build a second library at Theke Primary School in 2021 and supported Mlanda Primary’s Library in 2023. We also provide free CPD for teachers and community leaders in how best to run/organise and utilise this fabulous resource.

Better Sanitation & Water

We drilled our first borehole at Banda Hill Primary School, to support the ever expanding pupil population and the school’s Permaculture garden. We drilled another at Theke Primary School, up in the wild hills of Ntcheu- which was a particularly difficult project. Steep hills, dirt roads and a heavy drilling machine simply do not mix- but we got there in the end! We are now in the process of drilling at Msana Wa Ng’ombe School in Chipigela.

Permaculture Gardens

In a bid to help the schools we support have a small, sustainable income together with supporting the pupils in learning about better growing techniques, we have developed four school permaculture gardens. The garden is managed by the school community and all produce is sold, with funds raised used to purchase small items such as pens, pencils and chalk. The children also learn about permaculture which is an innovative framework for creating sustainable ways of living. It’s a practical method of developing ecologically harmonious, efficient and productive systems that can be used by anyone, anywhere. It is our hope that by learning how to work with nature, and their environment, the children will take this knowledge home to their families and communities.
